Project objective

The aim of the project is to improve income opportunities, the food situation, access to water and the role of women in six rural communities in the department of La Paz. The target group, which belongs to the Aymara population, receives training in agriculture, nutrition and hygiene.

Strengthening food security

In order to increase productivity in agriculture, training courses on agricultural practices are being held. As potato cultivation plays a particularly important role in the communities, the products are being diversified: in addition to commercial potato varieties, the families are also receiving native potato varieties that are more resistant and nutritious, as well as vegetable seeds. Families are also being trained in nutrition and hygiene to improve their eating and hygiene habits and, in the long term, their nutritional status.

In addition, irrigation systems are being provided and training courses for irrigation committees are being held to improve access to water for the communities.

Empowering women

The project primarily supports women in families. They will participate in all training courses offered by the project. Workshops on human and women’s rights and gender equality will also be held. The aim of the project is to ensure that every water committee in every community includes a woman as a member.

Our local partner

AYNI Asociación Civil has been working in rural communities in Bolivia since 2000 in the areas of agriculture, women’s empowerment, the environment and poverty reduction. Above all, they support the indigenous population, which makes up around 50% of Bolivia’s population and is particularly affected by poverty.
