Project objective

Poverty is the defining factor in the daily lives of many people in San Ramón, Peru. Specifically, this means that families have no sanitary facilities, no access to safe drinking water and no waste management plan, so rubbish is either buried or burned in the environment. The very precarious living situation leads to many illnesses, especially among children. They have to struggle with respiratory diseases and parasite infestations. With our project, we are making fundamental changes: The simple houses of 250 families living in poverty are being equipped with a wet room that uses a bio-treatment system to filter the wastewater before releasing it back into the environment. Another important part of the project is the construction of water collection systems that ensure a year-round supply of clean drinking water for the people.

Health care through deworming campaigns

We offer regular check-ups and therapy to combat the widespread parasite infections. These measures are primarily intended to protect the health of children and promote their development.

Development of sustainable waste management

Every family is trained in the separation and disposal of waste. Organic waste can be recycled in their own composts. The production of humus not only reduces the amount of waste, but also helps to maintain soil quality and food security on their own small plots of land for self-sufficiency.

Training for sustainable change

In addition to material assistance, we also focus on sustainable educational work. Families are trained in the areas of hygiene, drinking water treatment, nutrition and maintenance of the new facilities. Our local employees regularly visit the families to deepen their knowledge and provide practical support in their daily lives.

Our local partner
