RDS

The name “Rhein-Donau-Stiftung e.V.” refers both to the origin of the association with its two founding regions of Bavaria and the Rhineland and to its mission. For rivers have always been places of prosperity and culture. We support our partners in our project countries materially and ideally, so that they can develop a rich cultural and economic activity in their homeland.

Since its foundation, the association has had its own endowment capital. The interest generated from this is used to finance the association’s administrative costs.

The logo of the RDS takes up both rivers, the Rhine in green and the Danube in blue. The dots denote the fruits arising from the activities of RDS for the benefit of the people in our project countries.

The Rhein-Donau-Stiftung e.V. has been a bearer of the DZI donation seal since 2007. The DZI (German Central Institute for Social Issues) donation seal certifies that the Rhein-Donau-Stiftung e.V. uses donations economically and in accordance with its statutes and is a sign of carefully examined seriousness and worthiness of donations.
In addition, the association is committed to the standards of the Transparent Civil Society Initiative and the VENRO Code of Conduct. The Rhein-Donau-Stiftung e.V. is a member of the Association of German Development Non-Governmental Organizations (VENRO). (VENRO).

Projects

We mainly work with partners in developing countries in the global South. However, we do not rule out the possibility of supporting projects to promote school education, vocational training, health or entry into working life for people in need in Germany in the future.

No. Even though our projects and thus also the projects of our partners are based on the Christian image of man and humanitarian principles, they are always open to all people regardless of religion, origin or political conviction. Our partners include not only mostly non-denominational organizations such as FUNDAP, but also church organizations such as Caritas in Vietnam or private organizations such as Kianda Foundation in Kenya, whose Christian orientation is entrusted to the Catholic prelature Opus Dei.

Before a project is approved, it is carefully reviewed by our project team and – in the case of BMZ projects – additionally by external consultants. After the approval and during the entire project duration, the project team accompanies the project, is in regular contact with the local partners, usually visits the project annually, and controls whether the funds are used appropriately and according to the project objectives. In addition, the Rhein-Donau-Stiftung e.V. is regularly audited by DZI (German Central Institute for Social Issues) for serious and efficient use of donations and funding. The Rhein-Donau-Stiftung e.V. has been a bearer of the DZI donation seal since 2007.

Donations

Thanks to interest income from the association’s assets, support from the RHEDO Foundation and project-related funding from the BMZ, 92 percent of your donations goes to program and project work (project funding and project support) and 8 percent to public relations, donor support and administration. Earmarked donations, e.g. for a training project in Guatemala, are also used for this purpose. If we receive more donations than needed for certain projects or funding areas, we use the money for similar measures. Detailed information about our income and expenses can be found in our annual report.

Yes! Every contribution, no matter how small, has an immense impact: With just 10 cents, we can plant a tree seedling in Peru; €1 can support a youth in school in Colombia for one hour and €10 can provide an indigenous young woman with one month of vocational training.
