About Bolivia
Bolivia is located in the centre of South America and is a country of great geographical, cultural and social diversity. Over 50% of Bolivia’s approximately 11 million inhabitants belong to indigenous peoples, including members of the Aymara people. In rural Andean regions and in the highlands, agriculture and subsistence farming are still part of everyday life for many families.
Our Work
In Bolivia, we support our partner in improving the livelihoods of people, especially indigenous groups in rural regions, in the department of La Paz. Training in agriculture, nutrition and hygiene is significantly improving living conditions. In addition, the water supply in the communities is being secured.
Major Challenges
Despite its great natural diversity and cultural strength, Bolivia is one of the poorer countries in the region. Many rural communities are structurally disadvantaged — poverty, lack of water supply, limited nutrition and poor hygiene are key challenges. The consequences of climate change — irregular rainfall, droughts and soil erosion — further exacerbate the situation.
